Room 005

I think I finally found what I was looking for.

Lately I've been missing the internet I grew up with. Not because it was better in every way, but because it felt... human. Every website had fingerprints on it. People taught themselves HTML just to make something that felt like theirs. You'd open a page and music would start playing, there'd be strange little buttons in the sidebar, a guestbook tucked into the corner, and colors that probably shouldn't have worked together, but somehow they did.

You learned a little bit about the person before they ever said a word.

Somewhere along the way, the internet became beautifully efficient but strangely uniform. Every profile looks the same. Every platform asks you to fit yourself into the same handful of layouts. Personal websites slowly disappeared, replaced by timelines designed to keep us scrolling instead of wandering.

I miss wandering.

Finding Neocities reminded me that there are still people building little corners of the web simply because they want to. Not to optimize them. Not to monetize them. Just to make something that feels alive.

That's what I hope this becomes.

A place to archive thoughts that don't belong anywhere else. Things I want to remember. Things I'm still trying to understand. Photographs, music, essays, fragments, ideas, little obsessions, and moments that would otherwise disappear into the endless stream of everything else.

I don't really know what Soft Archive will become yet.

Maybe that's the exciting part.

For now, I'm just happy to have a place that feels like opening a bedroom door instead of another app.

Welcome.
