Room Care

Someone Was Here Before You

Housekeeping keeps the rooms livable between stays: linens changed, dust cleared, curtains straightened. Some rooms are cleaned often. Others haven't been touched in years, by request.

Out in the hallways you never see them, only what they leave behind. Back here, off the service elevator, the shift never ends. It is the brightest room in the building and the busiest. Everyone is in a hurry, and nobody looks up.

The Housekeeping back room: a steel service elevator, a linen chute marked Linens B1, pink shelves of folded towels, a linen cart, a lit Laundry door with frosted glass, a rail of rose uniforms, a time clock and a wicker basket, all hazy with steam.

    Guest Papers Are Not Read

Housekeeping squares the stack and straightens the pen, and leaves the pages as they lie. Anything turned face-down stays face-down.

    Nothing Is Thrown Away

Items left in rooms are tagged and sent to the Lost & Found drawer. Soiled linens go down the chute. Anything broken is written up for Maintenance.
